Similar triangles
Triangles are similar if their corresponding angles are equal. The ratio of their corresponding sides will also be equal.

1. In the following questions identify a pair of similar triangles in the diagrams shown below and find the unknown length x.

2. Find AB and AD.
To find the length XZ in the similar triangles shown above use two pair of corresponding sides in which one is the unknown side x. A fraction can be formed with each pair of corresponding sides where x is at the top. This results in a simple equation which can be solved as shown below.
